Japan Kan-Etsu Expressway Accident: A major road accident occurred in Japan on Friday night, in which two people died and 26 were injured. The accident occurred on the Kan-Etsu Expressway, near the city of Minakami, about 160 kilometers (100 mi) northwest of Tokyo. The accident was caused by icy weather, and involved a collision between 67 vehicles. This collision took place between two trucks, after which many vehicles started colliding with each other.

Initially a portion of the expressway was blocked and then cars coming from behind found it difficult to brake as there was snow on the road. Due to this, more vehicles started colliding. 26 people were injured in the accident, out of which the condition of 5 is said to be critical. Apart from this, two people died in the accident. Police said that a 77-year-old woman who was traveling in the passenger car died in this accident. The second person, identified as a truck driver, was found dead in the burnt truck.

20 vehicles burnt to ashes

After the accident, 20 vehicles caught fire, which continued to burn for some time. The fire was extinguished after about seven hours. Police said some stretches of the expressway were closed for road cleaning and debris removal. The incident also affected traffic on the expressway, and police have advised everyone to remain alert.

The year-end holidays had begun in Japan, and snowfall warnings had already been issued. In such a situation, people were traveling for their holidays, but the snowy weather made road travel dangerous. The accident occurred when people were traveling during their holidays to welcome the New Year.

Police engaged in investigation of the accident
