Japan Open 2026: PV Sindhu and Dhruv-Tanisha’s spectacular victory, Satwik-Chirag out due to injury
PV Sindhu Wins Opening Match At Japan Open 2026: Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu and India’s mixed doubles pair Dhruv Kapila-Tanisha Crasto have advanced to the second round of the Japan Open 2026 badminton tournament. At the same time, star men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty could not complete their match due to injury and were eliminated in the first round.
PV Sindhu’s great start
PV Sindhu defeated Malaysia’s ‘Wong Ling Ching’ in the first round of the BWF Super 750 tournament. Made a great start by defeating India 21-14, 21-11 in just 36 minutes. Sindhu maintained her dominance throughout the match and entered round two by winning in straight games.
The pair of Kapila and Crasto performed well
In the mixed doubles, the pair of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto also performed well by defeating Scotland’s Alexander Dunn and Julie McPherson 21-16, 21-14 and booked their ticket to the second round.
However, India also faced some disappointment. The mixed doubles pair of Rohan Kapoor and Ritwika Shivani Gadde were defeated by China’s top seeded pair ‘Feng Yan Zhe’ and ‘Huang Dong Ping’ Was eliminated from the tournament after losing 21-11, 21-10. Men’s doubles: Hariharan Amsakarunan and M.R. Arjun made a brilliant comeback in the second game, but Taiwan’s ‘Li Jae-Hui’ and Yang ‘Po-Hsuan’ Lost the match against 13-21, 21-17, 7-21.
World number-4 pair failed
The biggest blow to India came in the form of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty. After the world No. 4 Indian pair lost the first game 19-21 against Denmark’s Daniel Lundgaard and Mads Vestergaard, Satwik withdrew from the match as an old shoulder injury flared up. Due to this injury, the pair will not be able to participate in next week’s China Open and now their entire focus will be on the BWF World Championship to be held in India next month.
Satwik and Chirag won the BWF World Tour title after two years by winning the Singapore Open in May, but Satwik’s injury flared up again during the Indonesia Open.
