Japanese PM Sanae Takaichi assured – Japan will fully cooperate with India in running the bullet train.
New Delhi, 2 July. Japan has once again assured full support to India’s Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (Bullet Train) project. It will fully cooperate in achieving India’s target of starting commercial operations on primary components of the project by 2027.
This was announced in a joint statement issued after the 16th annual summit meeting of India and Japan in the national capital Delhi on Thursday. In this meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi reviewed the ongoing infrastructure projects between the two countries.
Japan’s support for 2027 target
According to the joint statement, Japanese PM Sanae Takaichi said that his government fully understands India’s goal of starting commercial operations on the primary segment of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train by 2027. Japan will continue to provide all necessary support to accomplish this.
E10 Shinkansen the train will also run
Both countries also agreed that a target has been set to introduce the next generation E10 Shinkansen bullet trains on this corridor. This will further strengthen the long-running high-speed rail partnership between India and Japan.

7,000 km high-speed rail network
Apart from the Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor, India and Japan also agreed to work together on other future high-speed rail projects. India wants to develop about 7,000 km long high-speed rail network across the country. PM Modi also invited Japanese companies to participate in the development of these new corridors. Japan welcomed this proposal.
Focus on private investment and new mobility
The two countries also agreed to increase private sector participation in high-speed rail and other modern transportation projects. The objective is to combine Japan’s advanced transport technology with India’s skilled human resources and large market. Apart from this, the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) on Next-Generation Mobility Partnership was also welcomed. Its objective is to increase cooperation in future mobility technology.
Cooperation will also increase on metro and other projects
The joint statement also emphasized cooperation and skill development in the shipbuilding sector. Apart from this, both the Prime Ministers also welcomed the progress of four major projects going on with the help of Japan. These include Mumbai Metro Line-11, Bengaluru Metro Phase-3, health and education projects in Maharashtra and sustainable horticulture project in Punjab. Both the countries said that they will continue to cooperate in such projects related to the social and economic development of India.
