Jason Gillespie: The dispute between Australian legend Jason Gillespie and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has now become completely public. Gillespie, who suddenly resigned in December 2024, made sensational revelations during a Q&A session on the social media platform ‘X’. He made it clear that his departure was not because of the team’s performance, but because of the insult done to the board.
Gillespie told the reason behind his resignation
Gillespie revealed that the rift between him and the board reached its peak when the PCB removed senior assistant coach Tim Neilson without any information. Gillespie said, “I was the head coach of the team and the board fired my assistant coach without telling me. This was completely unacceptable to me. When you don’t have the power to make decisions, it becomes impossible to do the job.”
According to Gillespie, the internal workings of the PCB are very poor. He was ignored in many decisions, due to which he felt insulted at the professional level. According to him, the problem was not about winning or losing the match, but about mutual respect and transparent communication.

Gillespie’s tenure, which took over in April 2024, was full of ups and downs. In September 2024, Pakistan had to suffer a humiliating 2-0 defeat in the home Test series against Bangladesh. In October 2024, under the guidance of Gillespie, Pakistan won a memorable Test series on home soil after years by defeating England 2-1. Gillespie’s strategy was credited for the way the team bounced back after the defeat in the first Test by using spin pitches.
