Jasprit Bumrah drops a massive hint on his injury amid Champions Trophy concerns

Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has dismissed reports saying he’d been told to go to bed before the Champions Trophy as rubbish. Wednesday’s Times of India (TOI) reported that Bumrah had been ordered to rest at home, raising doubt about his participation in the Champions Trophy that starts February 19. The report also said that Bumrah had been summoned to report to BCCI’s Centre for Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, although the date for check-in remained uncertain.

But now Bumrah has labeled the news as ridiculous.

“Fake news are easy to create, but this made me laugh. Unreliable sources,” Bumrah posted on X, with a few laughing emojis.

Bumrah had an injury scare in the deciding fifth Test against Australia in Sydney last week. He did not bowl in Australia’s second innings as India lost the game and conceded the series 1-3.

Bumrah finished with 32 wickets in the series, the highest of any player, and was named Player of the Series. Under his captaincy after Rohit Sharma declined to play in the first Test in Perth, India won the only match of its tour.

Bumrah, the number-one Test bowler, was then voted ICC Player of the Month for December 2024. The year that had been memorable for him as an international cricketer came to an end with stellar performances in Australia, where he took 22 wickets over three Tests in December, averaging 14.22.

During the next couple of weeks, Bumrah hopes for further success, with nominations for two of ICC 2024’s most prestigious awards-the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year Award and the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year.
