Jasprit Bumrah took eight wickets in the first Test against Australia and was named the Player of the Match after India’s win by 295 runs. Bumrah was the India National Cricket Team’s stand-in captain for the first red-ball game, as regular skipper Rohit Sharma was in Mumbai with his wife, who gave birth to their second child.

After India were bowled out for 150 in the first innings, Bumrah’s five-wicket haul kept the Aussies at 104.

Yashasvi Jaiswal (161) and Virat Kohli (100*) took the team’s total to 534 in the second essay. The hosts couldn’t handle the pacers once again and were dismissed for 238 and lost the contest by 295 runs.

Bumrah took three wickets in the second innings. Overall, he picked up 8 scalps.

Bumrah is on the verge of achieving a big record in the second Test. In 2024, he has taken 49 wickets in the longest format of the game and needs one more wicket to become the first player in the world to take 50 Test scalps in 2024. R Ashwin, with 46 wickets, is second on the list. The second game will be played on December 6 in Adelaide.
