Travis Head has been Team India’s nemesis for a while now. The Australian batter scored a century in the World Test Championships final, then a ton in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 final and then back-to-back centuries in the last two Tests in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) at the Adelaide Oval and the Gabba.

But it took a special delivery from Team India talisman Jasprit Bumrah to send Head packing early. The Indian fast bowler had been taken apart by Australian debutant Sam Konstas in the first session of Day 1 of the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Thursday but Bumrah bounced back magnificently since then.

The Mumbai Indians pacer dismissed Head for a duck at the Australian batter left the ball with hit his off-stump. There were no animated celebrations unlike those by Mohammed Siraj at the Gabba but Bumrah quietly went about his job.

Bumrah had earlier dismissed Australia opener Usman Khawaja for 57, caught at short mid-wicket. He then added the wicket of all-rounder Mitchell Marsh after Head’s wicket to pick up the third wicket of the innings.

Travis Head is the leading run-scorer in the series with 409 runs at an average of 68.16 with two centuries and 1 fifty to his name so far.

The Indian pace bowler now has 24 wickets in four Tests in this series at an average of around 12. Bumrah has single-handedly managed to keep the Indians alive in the five-match series.

Earlier, Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne helped Australia to continue their dominance over India in the second session of the Boxing Day Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy on Thursday.

At Tea, Australia were 176 for 2, with Steven Smith (10 not out) and Marnus Labuschagne (44 not out) unbeaten at the crease. Australia started the second session from 112 for 1, with Khawaja and Labuschagne on the crease. The two Aussie batters stitched a crucial partnership of 65 runs that helped the hosts get in the driver’s seat.

In the second session, Australia scored 64 runs. Meanwhile, it was a much better bowling performance from the visitors, even though they only managed to pick one wicket. In the 34th over, Khawaja sent the ball between second slip and gully for a four to get to his half-century.
