Jasprit Bumrah set to be… Reports make a huge claim on Bumrah’s participation in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy
Jasprit Bumrah, the million-dollar fast bowler of India, will be included in India’s 15-member squad announced on January 18 for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. In a report by India Today, it is said Bumrah will be included in the Indian side as the chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, will be announcing that in a press conference in Wankhede, after the selection committee meeting. However, Bumrah’s availability for the tournament depends on his recovery from injury.
An injury to his back has plagued Bumrah lately, so much so that he could not bowl in the second innings of the fifth Test between India and Australia, which he played from January 3 to 6, 2025, at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
The 31-year-old fast bowler from Ahmedabad, who last played a 50-over match for India on November 19, 2023, during the ODI World Cup final against Australia at Narendra Modi Stadium, is likely to be picked for the three-match ODI series against England as well.
Accordingly, “the selectors want Bumrah to play at least one competitive match before the Champions Trophy to assess his fitness and make a final decision.”
Karun Nair, who is currently is coming off a purple patch, is not likely to be selected for India’s two ODI series/tournament next. The right-handed 33-year-old has posted 752 runs in eight matches for Vidarbha in the 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy. He has a 752.00 average with five tons in seven innings.
He is not an unattractive batsman, but the selectors are reluctant to recall Nair, who last played for India in 2017, just ahead of a big tournament.”
Scored a triple century for India in Test cricket, last played a 50-over match for India on June 13, 2016, against Zimbabwe in Harare.
Sanju Samson has been named in the T20I squad for the forthcoming five-match series between India and England, although it is now unlikely that the 30-year-old will be included in discussions for the ODI series or the Champions Trophy. If reports are to be believed, BCCI officials and selectors did not take kindly to him skipping the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
