Jasprit Bumrah, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravindra Jadeja named in ICC Test team of the year
A total of 3 Indian players made it to the Test team of the year despite the Men in Blue losing 6 out of their last 8 matches in the format
The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the Test team of the year on Friday. Despite losing 6 out of their last 8 Tests, 3 Indian players made the cut in the star-studded team.
Young batter Yashasvi Jaiswal, pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja were all given a place in the team whose captain was chosen to be Australia’s Pat Cummins.
The team was mainly dominated by English cricketers. A total of 4 England players made it to the XI including Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Harry Brook and Jamie Smith. 2 players from New Zealand also made the team, including former skipper Kane Williamson and pacer Matt Henry.
Surprisingly, no South Africa player has been named in the XI despite the Proteas making it to the final of World Test Championship (WTC).
Coming to the Indian players in the team, Bumrah was easily the best bowler in red-ball cricket throughout the year. The pacer began the year with a bang, picking up 19 wickets in 4 matches against England before picking up 11 more scalps in just 2 Tests against Bangladesh.
His best performance of the year undoubtedly came during the Border-Gavaskar series where he took a highly impressive 32 wickets in 5 matches. Despite India losing the series by 3-1, Bumrah was awarded with the Player of the Series award.
In 2024, Jaiswal announced himself as one of the players to watch out for in the future by performing incredibly well in the series against England and Australia. Jaiswal scored a total of 1,478 runs at an impressive average of 54.74 in 2024, a tally second only to England’s Joe Root.
On the other hand, Jadeja started the year on a highly positive note as he scored 89 runs and took five wickets in the first match against England in Hyderabad. He then went on to a score his fourth hundred of the format in Rajkot. In total, Jadeja scored 527 runs in 2024 at an average of 29.27 and picked up 48 wickets at an impressive average of 24.29.
