Jasprit Bumrah’s participation in ICC champions trophy gets a new twist, Check out

There is much talk on the speedster of the Indian cricket team, Jasprit Bumrah, and his injury woes heading into Champions Trophy 2025. Bumrah was suffering from back spasms that precluded him from bowling in the final Test match against Australia at Sydney. The fast bowler looked in a bit of trouble during the match and was taken straight to the hospital for scans. As per a report in Hindustan Times, Bumrah has consulted New Zealand-based orthopedic surgeon, Dr Rowan Schouten, regarding the injury. “The surgeon is in constant touch with BCCI’s medical team, and the selectors are expected to be informed.”

It further stated that Bumrah would likely make it to the 15-member side heading into the upcoming Champions Trophy but will only be able to play if “pain-free while returning to bowling.”

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has voiced his reservations regarding Jasprit Bumrah’s potential appointment as India’s Test captain instead of Rohit Sharma.

Kaif said that appointing Bumrah as captain would increase the burden on the fast bowler so that it will impact his fitness and longevity. Instead, he suggested that a batter, like KL Rahul or Rishabh Pant, should take the mantle of captaincy to ensure stability and continuity in performance.

Speculation about India’s Test captaincy is rising after Rohit Sharma missed the Sydney Test during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy that just concluded. Reports suggest Rohit might retire completely from Test captaincy, which would allow his successor to be determined. The short captain for India in Perth and Sydney Tests, Jasprit Bumrah, thus features in the list of possible candidates, but Kaif is certain that it would be an ill-advised decision.

“The BCCI should think twice before appointing Jasprit Bumrah as the full-time captain,” Kaif posted on X.

“He needs to focus solely on taking wickets and staying fit. Added leadership responsibilities and getting carried away in the heat of the moment can lead to injuries and potentially shorten an outstanding career. Don’t kill the golden goose.”
