Jaypee company sold, Adani becomes the new owner! What will happen to those whose houses and money are stuck now? The old owner himself gave this answer
New Delhi: Now a new chapter has started for ‘Jai Prakash Associates Limited’ (JAL), a company which ruled the real estate and infrastructure sector of the country for almost four decades. The command of this company, which is stuck in the quagmire of huge debt and financial crisis, will now be in the hands of veteran businessman Gautam Adani. Jayaprakash Gaur, founder of Jaypee Group, has himself approved this big change. His statement has brought relief news for thousands of home buyers and investors who were running from pillar to post for years for their homes and investments.
Old owner expressed confidence in the leadership of Adani Group
Jayaprakash Gaur, founder of Jaypee Group, has clearly said that the selection of Adani Group by the Committee of Lenders (CoC) is a great decision. Welcoming this decision, he expressed confidence that under the vision and leadership of Gautam Adani, the legacy of Jaypee Associates will move forward with a new energy and responsibility. Gaur described the entire insolvency process as transparent and fair. He also praised the role of creditors and resolution professionals during these difficult times, who helped in turning the company towards a secure future.
New hope for home buyers and employees
Jaiprakash Gaur admitted that the past few times were no less than a nightmare for everyone associated with the company. Be they home buyers, employees or business partners—everyone is facing immense uncertainty. Now the main objective of this acquisition is to eliminate the old debt and to rapidly start the stalled work of the company under the new management. Seeing the financial strength of Adani Group, now the hope has been confirmed that the projects which were pending for years will be completed soon and people will be able to get the keys of their houses.
Vedanta’s challenge and big decision of Supreme Court
The path to this acquisition of Jaypee by Adani was not so easy. Rival company Vedanta Group had challenged this process in the court. Vedanta alleged that its big offer was ignored and there was a lack of transparency in the selection. However, lenders argued that Adani Group’s plan is much stronger in terms of ‘upfront cash’ (cash payment) and ability to complete the work. Ultimately, the Supreme Court also refused to stop this takeover of Adani, which completely cleared the way for the acquisition. Jaiprakash Gaur has also thanked Vedanta Group for showing interest in this fight.
The journey that started in 1979 is now at a new turn
Started in the year 1979, Jaiprakash Associates has given India historic constructions like Buddha International Circuit, huge hydropower projects and cement plants. This 45 year old empire has seen the heights of growth and also the pain of bankruptcy. But now, together with Adani Group, this company is ready for a new beginning, with which the future of thousands of families is linked.
