Jayson Tatum’s Return Remains a Mystery
Tatum remains a mistery. Boston Celtics fans are waiting for the return of their franchise cornerstone, sidelined with an Achilles tendon injury, but every update seems to raise more questions than answers.
Reports indicate he is ahead of schedule, taking part in controlled 5-on-5 scrimmages and practicing with teammates, yet his own stance on a comeback remains cautious: maybe he’ll play, maybe he won’t.
Head coach Joe Mazzulla confirmed Tatum’s presence at practice prior to the 111-89 win over the Los Angeles Lakers, but when asked whether Tatum had actually participated, his silence said plenty.
Reporter: “Did you see Tatum at practice yesterday?”
hammer: “Yes.”
Reporter: “Did he practice?”
hammer: …
Meanwhile, the Celtics continue to roll even without their leader. At 37-19 and 8-2 over their last ten gamesthe team has shown its chemistry is intact. Jaylen Brown is playing at an MVP level, convincing even LeBron James. The addition of Nikola Vucevic has brought even more firepower to an already formidable roster.
If Tatum returns this season, it will be a massive bonus. For now, however, the Celtics has learned how to win without theyr star. Up next: a matchup against the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday, another test of their ability to keep stacking victories while the mystery surrounding their brightest star remains unresolved.
