JD Vance’s claim – More than 20 hours of discussion took place in Pakistan, but no deal could be made between America and Iran.
Washington, April 12. There were talks between Iran and America in Pakistan regarding ceasefire for more than 20 hours, but no solution was found. US Vice President JD Vance said that even after more than 20 hours of talks in Islamabad, no agreement could be reached with Iran. He warned that Tehran’s refusal to accept Washington’s conditions is more bad news for Iran than for America.
Vice President Vance told the media at a press conference Sunday morning, “We’ve been talking about this for 21 hours and we’ve had several important conversations with the Iranians. That’s the good news. The bad news is that we haven’t reached an agreement.” The Vice President said that the negotiators from the US side had clearly stated their position but Tehran refused to accept the conditions.
“We have made it very clear what our red lines are, what things we are willing to make them agree to and what we are not willing to make them agree to. We have made it as clear as possible and they have decided not to accept our conditions,” he said. Vance emphasized that America’s main objective is to prevent Iran from gaining the ability to make nuclear weapons.
He said, “The simple thing is that we have to make sure that they will not make nuclear weapons and that they will not adopt methods by which they can quickly make nuclear weapons.” He further said that Washington wants long-term trust from Tehran, not short-term promises. “Do we see any fundamental commitment from the Iranians to not want to develop nuclear weapons, not just now, not just in two years, but for a long time? We haven’t seen that yet. We hope we will,” Vance said.
The US Vice President described America’s approach as flexible and in good faith under the direction of the President. He said, “I think we were very flexible. We were very accommodating. The President told us, you have to come here in good faith and try your best to make a deal. We did that but unfortunately, we did not move forward.”
Vance also emphasized greater cooperation from the American leadership during the talks. “We were constantly talking to the President. I don’t know how many times we spoke to him, half a dozen times, a dozen times in the last 21 hours. Officials remained in touch with the entire national security team during the conversation,” he said. The US Vice President said, “We are leaving here with a very simple proposal, a way of understanding, which is our last and best offer that we will see.” This failed conversation is a blow to efforts to restart diplomatic talks on Iran’s nuclear program. Iran’s nuclear program has long been a point of tension with America. America wants Iran to abandon efforts to enrich uranium.
