Jeffrey Epstein case: More than 10 lakh new documents found, if revealed there will be an uproar

Washington. There has been a major twist in America’s famous Jeffrey Epstein case. The Justice Department announced Wednesday that more than 1 million new documents related to the case had been recovered. Given the huge number of these documents, there is a possibility of further delay in the process of making them public. According to the department, the process of thoroughly reviewing these files and securing sensitive information may take several weeks.

This new development comes at a time when the US Congress had set December 19 as the deadline to release all the Epstein files. However, the recovery of new material has made the entire process more complicated. The Justice Department says that the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have jointly discovered these additional documents. However, the department has not clearly shared information about when exactly these documents were found or what was their source.

The main reason for the delay in public release of the documents is their huge volume and legal nuances. The department’s team of lawyers is constantly reviewing these pages so that the identities and other sensitive details of the victims can be protected within the ambit of the law. This process mainly involves removing or obscuring (redaction) those parts which may pose a threat to the safety of an innocent person or the victim. The Department of Justice has assured that they are committed to making these documents public as soon as possible, but a few more weeks of patience is necessary to ensure quality and confidentiality.

It is noteworthy that the law to release the Epstein files was passed almost unanimously last month, the purpose of which was to bring complete transparency in this high-profile case. Even before this, thousands of documents have been released, but currently more than 10 lakh new pages found can change the direction of investigation of this case. This delay has also intensified discussions in many circles as to how such important and huge documents remained away from the eyes of the investigating agencies till now. The Justice Department has made it clear that their priority is the safety of the victims and they will carry out this work in full compliance with the law.
