Jemimah also revealed that Gavaskar had reached out to her even after the final for the duet.

In a light-hearted and heartwarming moment during her appearance on Agenda Aajtak, Jemimah Rodrigues opened up about the viral clip featuring legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, who had expressed his desire to sing a duet with her if India lifted the World Cup. The video, shot earlier in the India Today studios, resurfaced and quickly spread across social media after India’s semi-final win, sparking fans’ excitement over the unusual but adorable collaboration.

During the show, the anchors reminded Jemimah of Gavaskar’s promise and replayed the clip in which the former India captain said, “If India win, I want to perform with Jemimah, who will use the guitar, and I’ll sing along. We did this once at a BCCI Awards ceremony a few years back. If she’s willing to join an old man like me, I’m completely up for it.”

Although the show attempted to bring Gavaskar to the studio for the moment, he was away on commentary duty. Jemimah responded with her trademark warmth and humility.

Jemimah’s response

Jemimah began by gently correcting Gavaskar’s self-description “Firstly, it’s so sweet of Sunil Gavaskar sir. He said he’s an old man, but no, he’s still a youngster, and I think everyone believes that. His energy is infectious.”

She then spoke emotionally about how meaningful the gesture was for her. “I don’t think people realise how big this is. We all know the legacy Sunil Sir carries, and the player he has been for India. For someone like him to say he wants to sing a song with me. It’s a huge honour.”

Jemimah also revealed that Gavaskar had reached out to her even after the final for the duet. “He actually messaged me after the finals too, saying, ‘Let’s sing together.’ But I had to fly to Australia for the Big Bash, and when I was free, he was busy with commentary. Our timings just never matched. But I’m sure it will happen soon.”
