Key Points

  • Jennifer Garner loves Ina Garten recipes, especially her English Roasted Potatoes.
  • Garner adds rosemary to the recipe, which features crispy, oven-roasted potatoes with sea salt.
  • The recipe is simple, flavorful, and perfect for pairing with dips or herb-infused butters.

Any dedicated follower of Jennifer Garner’s social media knows one thing: she loves Ina Garten. Not only has Garner frequently shared her favorite recipe from the Barefoot Contessa, but the two have even collaborated, appearing together both on Jennifer Garner’s social media “Pretend Cooking Show” and on Ina Garten’s Food Network series Be My Guest.

It’s no surprise that the two get along. Ina brings the same lively, down-to-earth energy that Garner does, with the same upbeat attitude about simple, good food. Hey, even their last names sound alike.

“Ina’s recipes are so ingrained in me, I don’t even realize it,” Garner told EatingWell last year. We love many of the same Ina recipes as Jen, from her Perfect Roast Chicken to her Roasted Tomato Soup.

Jennifer Garner recently appeared on the Dish podcast with Angela Hartnett and Nick Grimshaw, where she revealed her favorite way to make potatoes. It’s no surprise that it’s a recipe that appears in Ina Garten’s cookbook. However, as a fun twist, the recipe originally comes from Emily Blunt, who had shared her mother’s potato recipe with Ina.

“All potatoes are my friend… I’ll do a mashed potato for sure, and then I’ll do a roast potato. I specifically do Emily Blunt’s roast potatoes that Ina Garten put in her book, Modern Comfort Food. So I do whatever version Emily Blunt’s mother [does],” Garner says.

Honestly, those sound like pretty good potato role models to us.

“That’s my family’s favorite potato,” Garner adds. “As many as I make get eaten.”

The recipe for Emily’s English Roasted Potatoes isn’t just tucked away in Modern Comfort Food—it’s also posted on Ina Garten’s website. You start by cooking diced potatoes, letting them simmer for eight minutes. After draining, you return the potatoes to the pot and shake them to “rough up the edges.” Once the potatoes are dried, you carefully add them to a sheet pan that has been preheating in the oven with hot oil. Finally, you roast the potatoes in the oven, tossing them with sea salt and parsley once done.

“I add a bit of rosemary, but Emily Blunt’s mother did not… I didn’t want to have to bring that up,” Garner jokes in the video.

We recommend pairing these perfect potatoes with an enticing dip or a flavor-packed butter, like our Lemon-Thyme Whipped Ricotta, Lemon Aioli or French Onion Butter.

And if you’re looking for other English dishes to make, you can’t go wrong with simple, classic options like our Anti-Inflammatory Beans on Toast, Oven Fried Fish & Chips or Vegetarian Shepherd’s Pie.
