Jewar Airport will now open in January 2026, new date fixed for first flight from Noida.
A new deadline has emerged for the people waiting for the opening of Noida International Airport (Jewar). This world class airport will now be formally inaugurated in January 2026. With this, operation of the first passenger flights will also start from here. Earlier, the target for this project was December 2025, but now the new timeline for starting the operation has been fixed in January.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath set the deadline of January 2026, now passenger flights will start in the new year instead of December.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, while recently reviewing the project, has clarified that Noida International Airport will be inaugurated in January 2026. Earlier the possibility of its inauguration by the Prime Minister was being expressed between 9 to 15 December 2025, but now this program has been scheduled for January next year. This means that passengers will have to wait till the first month of the new year to fly from Jewar.
Terminal with capacity of 1.25 crore passengers annually and 3900 meter long runway is ready, work of ATC tower is also completed.
The construction work of the first phase (Phase-1) of the airport is almost complete. A 3,900 meter long runway and a state-of-the-art terminal building have been built here. This terminal will have the capacity to handle approximately 1.2 crore passengers annually. Apart from this, work on critical infrastructure like runway, taxi-way, ATC tower, parking area, terminal structure, baggage system and e-gates is also in its final stages, making it ready for operation.
Direct flights will start for 10 cities including Mumbai-Hyderabad with companies like Indigo and Air India Express.
Initially the focus will be on domestic flights and cargo operations from Noida Airport. Major airlines like Akasa Air, IndiGo and Air India Express are ready to start their services from here in the first phase. According to the initial plan, direct connectivity will be provided from here to about 10 major cities of the country like Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, which will provide greater choice to the passengers of Delhi-NCR.
The command is in the hands of Swiss company Zurich Airport, the picture of Western UP will change with the project worth Rs 29 thousand crores.
This entire project is being developed on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. It is being constructed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, which is a 100% subsidiary of Swiss company Zurich Airport International AG. The estimated cost of this entire project, to be built in four phases, is approximately Rs 29,650 crore. More than Rs 10,000 crore has been invested in developing runways, terminals and road-connectivity in the first phase alone.
The load of Delhi’s IGI Airport will reduce, this area will become a logistics hub with expressway and metro connectivity.
The biggest benefit from the opening of Jewar Airport will be to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, which will reduce the huge pressure of passengers. Apart from this, travelers from cities like Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Agra and Mathura will no longer have to go to Delhi to go abroad or other corners of the country. The Yamuna Expressway and Eastern Peripheral Expressway as well as the upcoming rapid rail connectivity will establish the region as a major aviation and industrial hub.
