Jewelery businessman robbed of Rs 20 lakh in broad daylight in Patna, son shot and injured

Patna: Armed criminals have committed a major robbery in broad daylight near the very busy Rajendra Nagar Terminal of the capital Patna. Miscreants looted jewelery worth Rs 20 lakh from a Hajipur jewelery businessman. When he protested against the robbery, the miscreants fired at the businessman’s son and seriously injured him by attacking him with the butt of the pistol. The entire incident has been captured in the CCTV camera installed in a nearby shop. On the complaint of the victim, Chitragupta Nagar police station has registered a case and started investigation.
The victim businessman Vinod Kumar is a resident of Hajipur in Vaishali district and he operates three gold and silver showrooms there. Vinod Kumar had recently gone to Kolkata to buy jewelery and got off the Howrah-Danapur Express at Patna’s Rajendra Nagar Junction on the morning of January 18. An employee was also with him and both of them had two bags full of jewellery.

To receive Vinod Kumar, his son Ravi Kumar had reached Rajendra Nagar Junction by car. At around eight in the morning, when Ravi was walking towards the station to pick up his father, suddenly five bike-riding criminals arrived there. The miscreants directly targeted the bag full of jewelery and started snatching. Seeing his father being robbed, Ravi Kumar came forward to intervene and started opposing the miscreants. During this time a miscreant opened fire on him. The bullet passed very close to Ravi Kumar’s body, due to which he narrowly escaped. After this the miscreants tried firing for the second time, but this time the magazine of the pistol fell down. Seeing the situation worsening, the miscreants attacked Ravi Kumar’s head with the butt of the pistol, due to which he suffered serious head injury and started bleeding.

After the incident, the miscreants looted a bag full of jewelery and fled towards Rajendra Nagar on a bike. According to Ravi Kumar, the looted bag contained jewelery worth about Rs 22 lakh. The miscreants could not take the second bag. Immediately after the incident, the injured Ravi Kumar was admitted to a private hospital in Kankarbagh, where he is undergoing treatment. After this, the victim’s family informed the matter at Chitragupt Nagar police station. On the complaint of Ravi Kumar, the police have registered an FIR against unknown miscreants under sections of robbery, firing and murderous attack.

SHO Roshni Kumari of Chitragupt Nagar police station said that the police is investigating the matter seriously. The footage of CCTV cameras installed around the incident site is being scrutinized. Initial investigation has revealed that the age of all the miscreants was between 19 to 30 years and they were wearing helmets, due to which their faces were not clearly visible. Police suspect that the miscreants had received advance information about bringing jewelery from Kolkata and the crime was carried out on that basis. Investigation is also being done from this angle whether the role of the employee present with the businessman is suspicious. The police are claiming to identify and arrest the miscreants soon. This incident, which took place near the station in broad daylight, has created an atmosphere of panic in the area and has also raised questions on the security arrangements of the city.
