A fire broke out in the NICU ward of Jhansi Medical College. At least 10 infants died and many were injured. Last night a fire broke out in the ward, resulting in loss of lives of infants. This incident has shocked the entire country.

A team has been formed to investigate the incident at Jhansi Medical College. According to media reports, the fire extinguishers installed in the medical college have expired one or two years ago.

UP Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak said, “Fire safety audit was conducted…” Brajesh Pathak said, “Fire safety audit was conducted in February. A mock drill was also conducted in June. How did this incident happen and why We can say something about this only after the investigation report comes… 7 bodies of newborn babies have been identified, 3 bodies have not been identified yet… Financial assistance will be provided to the families of the newborn babies.

Chief Medical Superintendent Sachin Mahor on the incident

Speaking to ANI, Chief Medical Superintendent Sachin Mahor said, the fire broke out due to a short circuit between 10.30-10.45 pm last night. There were 49 babies in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). 39 were rescued and 10 children died. All the children rescued so far are stable. The bodies of 3 infants are yet to be identified, the process of identification is underway so that the bodies can be handed over to their parents…”
