Jharkhand assembly polls: Congress releases second list of 7 candidates

New Delhi: The Congress party released a list of seven candidates for the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly Elections. On Thursday, the Congress allotted key tickets for the polls. Nishat Alam has been fielded from Pakur, while Arun Sahu will contest from Barhi. Besides, Suresh Kumar Baitha has been fielded from the Kanke reserved seat, and Lal Suraj will contest from Panki.

The party has nominated KN Tripathi as its candidate for Daltonganj, Sudhir Kumar Chandravanshi for Vishrampur, and Radhakrishna Kishore for the Chhattarpur reserved seat. This has been done to boost the party’s presence across the state during the key elections.

In its first list, the Congress party had declared 21 candidates for the Jharkhand Assembly elections on Monday night. Senior Congress leader Ajoy Kumar will contest from the Jamshedpur East constituency. Kumar, who is monitoring Congress affairs in Tripura, Odisha, and Nagaland, is in the electoral fray this time. The Congress and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) are fighting the election as coalition partners.

BJP aims to contest 68 of 81 seats

On October 19, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released its first list of 66 candidates. The BJP is aiming to contest 68 out of the 81 seats, The rest of the seats have been allocated to NDA allies: the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU), Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) and Janata Dal (United). AJSU has nominated candidates in 10 seats, JDU in 2, and LJP in 1 seat.

The voting will be conducted for the 81 constituencies in two phases, to be held on November 13 and 20. The results will be announced on November 23. Approximately 2.60 crore voters are set to exercise their franchise, including 11.84 lakh first-time voters and 1.13 lakh people with disabilities, third-gender individuals, and senior citizens over the age of 85.

In 2019 assembly elections, the JMM-led alliance secured 47 seats. The JMM had won 30 seats, while the Congress won 16, and the RJD one.
