Latehar18 January. A tragic accident took place in Latehar district of Jharkhand on Sunday, when a bus carrying a wedding procession overturned in Orsa Bangladhara valley under Mahuadand police station area. At least seven people on the bus died while 80 others were injured. Police gave this information.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Kumar Gaurav said that the bus carrying a wedding procession from Balrampur district of Chhattisgarh was coming to Mahuadand of Latehar. The bus overturned, killing five people including four women on the spot. The injured have been taken to the hospital. Another official said that two people died during treatment in the hospital.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren, in a post on social media platform ‘X’, directed Latehar Deputy Commissioner to provide proper medical facilities to the injured.
Sub-divisional officer (SDM) Vipin Kumar Dubey said that 60 injured have been admitted to Mahuadand Community Health Center and more than 20 have been admitted to a private hospital. He said, ‘Thirty-two people in critical condition are being sent to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital (RIMS) in Ranchi for better treatment.’
About 90 people were traveling in the bus, the accident occurred due to brake failure.
Bus driver Vikas Pathak said, ‘There were about 90 passengers in the bus. The brakes of the bus had failed. Despite trying to stop the vehicle by using the handbrake and switching off the engine, I could not control it and ultimately the bus overturned.
