Jharkhand Dumka Court: MLA Pradeep Yadav sentenced to 1 year
Dumka Civil Court convicted Congress MLA Pradeep Yadav in a 2010 agitation case and sentenced him to 1 year imprisonment. However, 14 other accused have been acquitted by the court due to lack of evidence.
Ranchi: In a major political and legal development in Dumka, Jharkhand, the court has sentenced Congress Legislature Party leader Pradeep Yadav to one year imprisonment. The verdict was delivered by the MP/MLA Special Court of Dumka Civil Court, which found them guilty under section 225 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The court gave this decision on the basis of the testimony of a total of six witnesses and the available evidence in this case. However, the court, while accepting the bail plea of the defence, also gave relief to the MLA and granted him bail on two sureties of Rs 10,000 each.
All the accused appeared in the court
During the judgment, all the named accused including Congress MLA Pradeep Yadav, former BJP MLA Randhir Singh were present in the court. The case was pending for a long time and was heard in several phases.
The court delivered its final verdict after a detailed hearing, resulting in a partial conviction and partial acquittal in this politically sensitive case.
The whole matter is related to the 2010 movement
This whole matter is of 15 September 2010, when a big movement was organized in Deoghar, Jharkhand demanding declaring it as a drought-hit area. The Collectorate gherao was organized under the leadership of Pradeep Yadav, who was the leader of Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) at that time, and former minister Randhir Singh.
A large number of people had participated during the demonstration and a situation of tension had arisen regarding the administrative system.
Background of detention and registration of FIR
After the agitation, the police controlled the situation and detained many workers at KKM Stadium. After this, a case was registered against a total of 16 people in the city police station.
It was alleged in the case that during the demonstration, government work was disrupted and administrative instructions were violated.
Court’s decision: One person sentenced, 14 accused acquitted
After a long hearing, the court gave a divided verdict in the case.
Pradeep Yadav was convicted under section 225 of the IPC and sentenced to one year imprisonment
Due to lack of evidence, 14 other accused including former BJP MLA Randhir Singh were acquitted.
The court made it clear that the available evidence was not sufficient to ensure equal conviction against all the accused.
Defense stance: Preparation to challenge the verdict
After the verdict, the defense has indicated that they will challenge this decision in the High Court. He says that this matter was related to political movement and there was no criminal intention in it.
According to the defence, a legal review of the court’s decision is required and an appeal will be filed in the Sessions Court.
