Ranchi: Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar has approved the proposal of the State Election Commission to conduct municipal elections in Jharkhand. Elections will be held in 48 municipal bodies in February, which will be conducted through ballot paper in one phase. The notification is likely to be issued on January 27, and elections are likely to be held on February 25-26. The High Court had directed to hold elections by March 31. The Commission has completed preparations for the elections.

According to the information, the Governor has given consent to the budget session and civic elections starting from February 18. Now the state government will send the proposal related to the civic elections to the State Election Commission. After this the State Election Commission will start the election process. Earlier, State Election Commissioner Alka Tiwari had recently reviewed the preparations for the elections in a high level meeting.

This time Jharkhand municipal elections will be held through ballot paper instead of EVM. Pink ballot paper will be used for the post of president and white ballot paper will be used for ward councillor. Both the votes will be cast in the same box. The State Election Commission may issue a notification by the end of January, with voting likely in February-March. In Medininagar, the post of president is unreserved for women, while the deputy mayor will be elected by the ward councilor.
