Ranchi: Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has made former minister Lewis Marandi its candidate from Jama seat. The ongoing suspense regarding Jama seat finally ended on Friday. Chief Minister and JMM working president Hemant Soren announced Lewis Marandi as the JMM candidate.

Lewis Marandi defeated Hemant Soren on Dumka seat in the 2014 assembly elections, after which he was made a minister in Raghuvar Das's government but lost the 2019 assembly elections. In the 2024 assembly elections, BJP has fielded former MP Sunil Soren as its candidate from Dumka seat. After this Lewis resigned from BJP and joined JMM. JMM has made him its candidate from Jama on 25 October. In the 2019 assembly elections, Sita Soren had won this seat from JMM. During the Lok Sabha elections, Sita Soren left JMM and joined BJP. BJP made her its Lok Sabha candidate from Dumka seat but she could not register victory. Now BJP has made Sita Soren its candidate from Jamtara seat against minister Irfan Ansari.
