‘Ji-Ram Ji’ bill: “Developed India-Ji Ram Ji” law will replace MNREGA, President Murmu approved
New Delhi. President Draupadi Murmu on Sunday gave his approval to the ‘Developed India-Ji Ram Ji’ Bill. The Ministry of Rural Development gave this information. Parliament had passed the VB-G Ram Ji Bill, 2025 amid opposition protests. It aims to replace the existing rural employment law ‘MNREGA’ and ensure 125 days of employment per financial year to every rural household. According to the government, this new scheme aims to establish a rural development framework in line with the national vision of ‘Developed India-2047’.
According to the Union Rural Development Ministry, this new bill has been prepared keeping in mind the vision of ‘Developed India 2047’. The government aims to further strengthen income security in rural areas, as well as promote the creation of durable and productive assets. The ministry says that this will strengthen the rural economy and give a new direction to inclusive and balanced development.
Statutory guarantee of 125 days employment
Under the provisions of the law, it will be the statutory responsibility of the government to provide employment for a minimum of 125 days to willing rural families. Apart from this, strict rules have also been set regarding wage payment. According to the provision, it will be mandatory to pay wages on weekly basis or within a maximum of 15 days. If payment is not made within the stipulated time, a clear provision for compensation for the delay to the concerned beneficiaries has also been included in the law.
