British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe has shared statement apologising for his remarks about immigrants that caused worldwide fury.
The 73-year-old is one of the richest men in UK and co-owns Manchester United football club.
While speaking with Sky News, Jim commented on the UK economy being “colonised” by immigrants.
He said “The UK has been colonised by immigrants, really, hasn’t it?” which left many offended as many individuals came out demanding an apology for the harsh words.
Jim also made incorrect claim that UK’s population grew from 12 million to 70 million because of immigrants in the last 5 years when the factual numbers are 66.7 million to 69.4 million, as per The Office for National Statistics.
In a statement expressing remorse, Jim said “I am sorry that my choice of language has offended some people in the UK and Europe and caused concern but it is important to raise the issue of controlled and well-managed immigration that supports economic growth.”
British Prime Minister Kier Starmer called Jim’s remarks “offensive and wrong” and demanded he apologises for the harsh words.
