Jinnah mentioned in Jammu University syllabus, ABVP creates huge ruckus in campus
The Central University of Jammu had formed a committee to review the syllabus of MA Political Science. After reviewing the syllabus, the committee has recommended removing subjects related to Pakistan’s founder Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan and Mohammad Iqbal from the syllabus.
Actually, this decision was taken by BJP’s student organization Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) against teaching the three people in the MA syllabus. ABVP had also protested on Friday last week demanding removal of a chapter on the founder of Pakistan. Let us tell you that this chapter was included in the revised postgraduate syllabus under the National Education Policy 2020.

the decision was taken unanimously
Professor Baljit Singh Mann, Chairman of the Department of Political Science of the University, said that a meeting of the Faculty and Departmental Affairs Committee was held on March 22. They have unanimously decided to recommend removal of the subject related to Jinnah, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan and Mohammad Iqbal from the course chapters of one-year postgraduate program and two-year postgraduate programme.
What did the HoD of the department say?
The department has sent all three topics from the syllabus to the Board of Studies for consideration. HoD Mann said that the Board of Studies is scheduled to meet on March 24 to further discuss the matter. Earlier, the university had defended the syllabus saying that the inclusion of Jinnah and other thinkers was a purely academic decision and was as per the guidelines of the University Grants Commission.

These thinkers were being taught
Professor Mann said that the module on ‘Modern Indian Political Thought’ included a wide range of thinkers with different ideologies. These include Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, Mohammad Iqbal, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, MS Golwalkar, Mahatma Gandhi, BR Ambedkar, Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
He made it clear that the syllabus was designed for students to read and understand multiple perspectives. He said that many of these thinkers adopted nationalist stance at different periods of their lives, which makes their study necessary for historical understanding.
