Jio adds maximum number of 'active subscribers' – Obnews

According to the latest data from Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Reliance Jio is leading in terms of adding 'active subscribers'. Jio added about 17 lakh 'active subscribers' in the month of September. In the same period, Bharti Airtel lost 13 lakh customers and Vodafone Idea (Vi) lost around 31 lakh customers. Jio remains number one in terms of adding 'active subscribers' for the second consecutive month. Due to falling 'active subscriber' numbers of Airtel and Vodaidea, the number of active subscribers across the industry witnessed a decline, falling by 15 lakhs to around 106 crores in the month of September.

Let us tell you that the performance of telecom companies depends on the number of their active customers. Because active customers are the most important source of revenue for companies. However, the entire industry suffered a shock in the month of September. About 1 crore customers were lost from Jio, Airtel and Vi. Meaning around 1 crore SIMs were switched off. It is believed that after the tariff increase, those customers who did not need two SIMs switched off their numbers.

BSNL's market share also saw a slight increase. The government company added about 15 lakh wireless data broadband customers in September, which is much less than the average of 56 lakh in July and August. Moreover, BSNL lost customers in six circles, indicating a slowdown after recent growth.

TRAI data shows that the total number of customers connected to wireline broadband i.e. fiber and other wirelines has crossed 4 crore 36 lakh. During the month of September, there was an increase of 7 lakh 90 thousand new customers. Reliance Jio added the maximum number of customers. While Jio added 6 lakh 34 thousand customers to its network in September, Airtel was able to add only 98 thousand customers. After this the market share of Jio and Airtel became 32.5% and 19.4%. BSNL lost 52 thousand wireline broadband customers in the same period.
