Jitu Patwari wrote a letter to CM Dr. Mohan Yadav against the increase in electricity rates in MP, Congress warned of agitation.

Congress State President Jitu Patwari has written a letter to Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav expressing strong opposition to the proposed 4.80 percent increase in electricity rates in Madhya Pradesh. He called it a direct attack on the pockets of the general public and a model of government extortion. He said, “Electricity is a basic necessity of life, not a luxury. Your government is making it a means of revenue, whereas it should be a medium of public service.

The Congress leader has said that your government has failed to explain what was the compulsion that additional economic burden is being imposed on the people already struggling with inflation. Along with this, he has demanded that the new rates to be implemented from April 1 should be withdrawn immediately. He said that if this decision is not withdrawn then Madhya Pradesh Congress will launch a decisive movement against this decision from the streets to the House.

Electricity will be expensive in Madhya Pradesh

Let us inform you that Madhya Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (MPERC) has approved an average increase of 4.80 percent in electricity rates for the financial year 2026-27. The new rates will be applicable from April 1 and have been increased by 30 to 50 paise per unit in various slabs, which will lead to an increase in the electricity bills of consumers. However, some relief has also been given. Subsidy will continue on consumption up to 150 units. There has been no increase in electricity tariffs for LT4 category low-income domestic consumers and LT9 category metro rail. This decision will directly impact common domestic consumers, small industries, traders and farmers.

Jitu Patwari wrote a letter to the Chief Minister

Power companies are citing rising procurement costs and reducing losses, while Congress is calling it an anti-people step. Regarding this, Jitu Patwari has written a letter to the Chief Minister saying that this additional burden on the people who are already struggling with inflation is unfair. he has said

That in the last decade, electricity rates in Madhya Pradesh have increased by 22-24 percent. The rate for domestic consumers in the 0-50 unit slab has increased from Rs 3.65 to Rs 4.45, which is an increase of more than 20 percent. Apart from this, more than 3 percent additional burden is being imposed every month in the name of Fuel Price and Power Purchase Adjustment Surcharge (FPPAS).

questions asked to the government

Congress State President asked the Chief Minister why accountability of power companies is not fixed by citing their losses? Why is recovery done from the public by showing losses every year? Is the burden of mismanagement and corruption being passed on to the common consumer? He also asked whether the poor, farmers and the middle class are left only to pay the bills. He termed the 20 percent discount on EV charging per day as a policy gimmick because the number of EV vehicles in the state is still very limited and common consumers are not getting any direct benefit from it.

Four demands put forth, warning of agitation

Jitu Patwari has placed four major demands before the government. He has said that the 4.80 percent electricity rate increase should be immediately withdrawn, additional charges like FPPAS should be transparently reviewed, an independent inquiry should be conducted into the losses of power companies and a special relief package should be announced for the poor and middle class. He warned that if this decision is not withdrawn then Madhya Pradesh Congress will launch a decisive movement from the streets to the Assembly.
