JJ Redick dismisses ‘death stare’ rumours involving Luka Doncic
The basketball world was sent into a frenzy this week after a “death stare” exchange between Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick and superstar Luka Doncic went viral.
The incident occurred during the Lakers’ 129-101 blowout win over the Golden State Warriors when cameras caught the two in an animated, high-tension discussion near the bench.
While social media sleuths theorised a rift in the locker room, both parties have since laughed off the speculation.
Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s matchup against the Pelicans, Redick clarified that the interaction was nothing more than typical competitive fire.
“I didn’t think much of it at the time, and I don’t think Luka did either,” Redick explained, adding that the intensity is part of their dynamic.
“He and I have a great relationship; I really value our relationship. I think those things happen very frequently. It’s a competition.”
Doncic echoed this sentiment, confirming that the two actually joked about the internet’s reaction afterward. Redick revealed their private conversation, saying, “I was talking with Luka about it, we were actually laughing about it. I was like, ‘I didn’t feel any tension,’ and he was like, ‘Nah, I didn’t care about it.’”
Insiders suggest the bond remains unbreakable, proving that even a “death stare” is just part of the game for two of the league’s fiercest competitors.
