Jodhpur Sisters Suicide: A Tragic Outcry for Justice
Two sisters in rural Jodhpur died by suicide after years of gang‑rape, blackmail, and alleged police negligence, sparking massive outrage and demands for justice.
The elder sibling died on March 20 after being trapped by Mahipal, a local e‑Mitra operator, who secretly recorded obscene videos and blackmailed her. She named eight individuals in her complaint, including Shivraj, Gopal, Vijaram, Dinesh, Manoj, and Pukhraj, accusing them of gang‑rape and threats.
Her younger sister later alleged that the same group turned to her, sexually assaulting her by threatening to release her sister’s videos. Despite filing an FIR on April 11, she claimed no concrete action followed. On Friday, she climbed a water tank demanding arrests, consumed poison, and died while being taken to the hospital.
The deaths triggered protests outside MDM Hospital, where community leaders accused police of shielding the accused. Hanuman Singh Khangta of the Marwar Rajput Society said negligence cost the sisters their lives.
Police detained Mahipal and another accused, confirming that arrests are underway. Superintendent of Police PD Nitya assured a departmental inquiry against the officials involved.
