Many MPs are angry with Jagdambika Pal's unilateral decisions, opposition members are in a mood to resign from the committee.
New Delhi : Members of opposition parties included in the joint committee of Parliament considering the Waqf (Amendment) Bill have opened a front against committee chairperson Jagdambika Pal. It is being said that the members, angry over the alleged 'unilateral decisions' of the Chairman, have lodged several complaints and alleged that they were not given enough time to prepare and said that the Chairman is 'demolishing' the entire process of the committee.
It is being told that the committee chairman can meet Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to lodge his complaint regarding the functioning of Jagdambika Pal. The opposition members also claimed in the letter addressed to Birla that they have been ignored in the proceedings of the committee, hence they are left with no option but to be forced to distance themselves from the committee.
Sources associated with the opposition said that all the angry members can unite and meet Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday to inform him about the complaints being made against the committee chairperson Jagdambika Pal.
These MPs include DMK MP A Raja, Congress's Mohammad Javed and Imran Masood, AIMIM's Asaduddin Owaisi, Aam Aadmi Party's Sanjay Singh and Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee. Opposition members have written this joint letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker. He accused Pal, a veteran Bharatiya Janata Party MP, of taking unilateral decisions from the committee chairman in fixing dates of meetings and sometimes holding meetings for three consecutive days and deciding who should be called before the committee. . He said that it is not practically possible for MPs to hold talks without preparation. In such a situation, proper instructions should be given to committee chairperson Jagdambika Pal.

Opposition members said the committee should not be seen as a means to get the proposed law passed as per the government's wishes, bypassing due process. The committee's proceedings have been disrupted due to continued protests by opposition members on several issues, with BJP members accusing them of deliberately trying to disrupt its work.
