Jose Mourinho records video evidence of Turkish football player’s verbal assault
Turkish daily Hurriyat reported that Fenerbahce’s Jose Mourinho took a video of a rival team player in the tunnel during halftime as player Caner Erkin insulted the Fenerbahce player and coaching team.
According to the report, the incident took place during the game between Fenerbahce and Eyupspor on Dec. 20 during the Trendyol Super Lig Week 17 clash. Details have emerged about the heated halftime altercation between both team players.
The match played at Kasimpasa, was marked by frequent moments of high tension, particularly toward the end of the first half. A foul incident involving Irfan Can Kahveci and former Fenerbahce player Caner Erkin escalated the tension during the game.
Jose Mourinho vs Arda Turan
Following Fenerbahce’s equalizer, Eyupspor head coach Arda Turan reacted furiously, confronting both the referee and the fourth official.
His protests earned him a red card. Meanwhile, Eyupspor players continued to object to referee Emre Kargin, with Caner Erkin and Robin Yalcin receiving yellow cards.
As tensions boiled over, the confrontation extended into the tunnel.
Caner Erkin was at the center of the altercation in the corridor and locker room area. It was reported that Erkin directed offensive language toward Fenerbahce players and staff, sparking outrage within the Fenerbahce camp.
Erkin, accused of instigating the incident, now faces calls for expulsion from his former club’s Fenerbahce’s membership.
Adding to the controversy, Fenerbahce head coach Mourinho reportedly captured footage of Erkin’s aggressive behavior on his phone, further fueling the dispute.
