The Health Minister presented figures highlighting the success of anti-Naxal operations in the state. He said that more than 503 Naxalites have been killed in the state in the last two years. This year alone, 284 Maoists have been killed, out of which 255 were from Bastar region. Whereas last year this figure was 219. Apart from this, in the last two years, about 2500 Naxalites have surrendered and 1853 have been arrested.

Nadda claimed that dreaded top Naxalites like Hidma and Basavaraju have been eliminated. This shows the strength of the security system in the state. Nadda made it clear in his address that since the coming of the BJP government, action against Naxalites has increased and concrete steps have been taken towards restoring peace in areas like Bastar.

32 leaders killed in Jheeram Valley

Jheeram Valley attack is one of the darkest chapters of Indian politics. On May 25, 2013, Naxalites had carried out a gruesome attack on the convoy of leaders during the Parivartan rally of Congress in Bastar district. In this attack, 32 people including the then State Congress President Nand Kumar Patel, former Leader of Opposition Mahendra Karma and former Union Minister Vidyacharan Shukla were killed.
