JSW MG Motor To Raise Prices By Up To 2 Percent From April 1st

JSW MG Motor India has announced a price hike of up to 2 percent across its vehicle portfolio, effective April 1, 2026. The revision applies to all models except those sold through the MG Select channel, which covers the Cyberster sports car and the M9 Presidential limousine. For buyers who have been sitting on a shortlist that includes any MG model, this is a clear signal to finalise the purchase today rather than wait until after the long weekend.

The company has cited rising input costs as the reason for the revision. This is consistent with what other carmakers have communicated over the past few months. Raw material costs, logistics, and component pricing have all been under pressure, and manufacturers periodically adjust prices to partially recover margin.

A 2 percent increase sounds modest in percentage terms, but the actual rupee impact varies considerably depending on which model you are looking at. On the Windsor EV, which starts at Rs 11.98 lakh and goes up to around Rs 16.65 lakh depending on variant and battery pack, a 2 percent hike translates to a range of roughly Rs 24,000 to Rs 33,000 added to the sticker price.

On the MG Hector, which currently runs from approximately Rs 13.99 lakh to Rs 21.69 lakh, the same 2 percent maximum adds between Rs 28,000 and Rs 43,000 to the price. For the ZS EV, priced between Rs 18.98 lakh and Rs 25.20 lakh, the increase at the top end could be as high as Rs 50,000.

These are meaningful numbers on vehicles that are already price-sensitive purchase decisions. The Windsor EV in particular has attracted buyers specifically on its accessible starting price point and battery-as-a-service model. Any increase there will be watched closely by the segment.

The timing of this announcement is worth noting because MG has been on a strong sales run heading into the new financial year. In February 2026, the company reported wholesale volumes of 4,957 units, a 24 percent year-on-year growth over 4,002 units sold in February 2025. Month-on-month, volumes also improved marginally by 2.35 percent over January’s 4,843 units.

The Windsor EV was the top-selling model at 2,599 units in February, continuing its run as the primary volume driver for the brand. The MG Comet EV delivered 699 units, a 140.2 percent jump year-on-year, while the ZS EV added 344 units. The Hector had a strong month too, posting 1,204 units in February, a 133.8 percent year-on-year increase largely driven by the recent facelift refresh. EVs accounted for 3,642 of the total 4,957 units sold, making up over 73 percent of the brand’s monthly volume. That is a significant tilt toward electric, and the Windsor alone contributed more than half of total sales.

With the price revision kicking in on April 1, the window to book at current prices is extremely narrow. April 1 falls on a Wednesday, which means dealerships will be open and processing deliveries from that day onward at revised pricing. The last clear opportunity to lock in the older price is by confirming a booking and payment today, March 30, or pushing a dealership to process paperwork before end of business on March 31.

For buyers already deep into negotiations on a Windsor EV or Hector, a Rs 25,000 to Rs 45,000 increase is worth acting on quickly. The hike is not catastrophic, but it is real money, and there is no reason to let it materialise by waiting a day or two longer than necessary.
