Jude Bellingham’s brace sends England into the World Cup semi-finals

England beat Norway 2-1 after extra time in the FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-final in Miami. Former Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham scored twice, including a decisive extra-time winner, to send the side captained by Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane into the semi-finals.

Norway 1-2 England AET

Goals: 1-0 Schjeldrup 36′ (assist: Ødegaard), 1-1 Bellingham 45+2′ (assist: Gordon), 1-2 Bellingham 93′

Kane led the Three Lions’ attack, looking to add to his six tournament goals, while Norway — making their first-ever World Cup quarter-final appearance — were spearheaded by Erling Haaland, who had already netted seven times in the competition.

Thomas Tuchel made two changes from the round-of-16 win over Mexico, with John Stones coming in for the suspended Jarell Quansah and Noni Madueke replacing Bukayo Saka. Norway boss Ståle Solbakken made just one change, with Andreas Schjelderup starting in place of Antonio Nusa.

England controlled possession in the opening half-hour, with Jude Bellingham, Anthony Gordon and Elliot Anderson combining well down the left. Kane had the first real chance of the match, firing a free-kick over the bar from the edge of the area in the 29th minute. Norway, however, were dangerous on the counter, and Haaland nearly capitalised when Stones’ misplaced backpass almost gifted the striker a clear run on goal, only for Jordan Pickford to intervene.

Against the run of play, Norway took the lead in the 36th minute. Schjelderup received the ball on the left flank, cut inside and looped a stunning effort over Pickford and in off the post, with Martin Ødegaard credited with the assist. Norway then pushed for a second, with Alexander Sørloth flashing a shot just over and Ødegaard forcing a low save from Pickford.

Bellingham levels in stoppage time

England responded in first-half stoppage time. Gordon played a low pass into the penalty area, and Bellingham took the ball in his stride, skipped past Torbjørn Heggem and arrowed a low shot into the far corner to level at 1-1.

The drama continued when Kane dinked the ball over the onrushing Ørjan Nyland moments later, but the goal was ruled out for offside. The teams went in level at the break.

Norway’s second goal ruled out by VAR

Thomas Tuchel made a double change at half-time, bringing on Saka and Eberechi Eze for Madueke and Declan Rice. The second half began with England again in possession, but Norway remained a threat on the break. Pickford was called into action to parry a Haaland header behind for a corner.

Norway then appeared to take the lead when Torbjørn Heggem prodded home a loose ball, but VAR intervened — Haaland had pushed Anderson in the build-up, and the goal was disallowed.

Crossbar denies Norway as the match heads to extra time

Norway came closest to a winner in the second half. In the 76th minute, Aursnes returned a corner into the box, and Kristoffer Ajer met it with a header that crashed against the crossbar, with Haaland unable to convert the rebound.

Solbakken introduced Nusa and Oscar Bobb in the 67th minute for Sørloth and Schjelderup. Nusa tested Pickford with a curling effort in the 85th minute, but the England goalkeeper held firm. Despite seven minutes of added time, neither side could find a winner, and the match went to extra time.

Bellingham seals it in extra time

England started extra time brightly. Saka won a corner, and Kane headed a Saka delivery straight at Nyland. Moments later, Morgan Rogers fired a long-range effort that Nyland could only parry, and Bellingham was quickest to react, slamming the rebound into the net from close range in the 93rd minute to put England ahead for the first time.

England were then awarded a penalty when Djed Spence went down in the area, but VAR overturned the decision. Nusa had a shot blocked by Marc Guéhi in the 104th minute, and Nyland produced a fine double save to deny Spence and Saka in the 110th minute as England held on to win 2-1 and advance to the semi-finals.
