Jump 5 places in global ranking

New Delhi, 15 January 2026: There is good news for Indian tourists. In the year 2026, an improvement of five places has been seen in the global ranking of Indian passport. According to the announced ‘Henle Passport Index’, India is now ranked 80th in the world. Along with India, Algeria and Niger are also included in this list. After the new ranking, Indian passport holders will now be able to travel to 55 countries of the world without prior visa, with visa-on-arrival or ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) facility.

  • Singapore again on top, Japan and South Korea dominate

Singapore remains at the first position in the list, whose citizens can travel to 192 countries of the world without a visa. Japan (188 countries) and South Korea are also among the top countries. This report makes it clear that the citizens of a country which has more economic power also get more freedom of travel. The top 10 places are mostly European countries, whose citizens can move freely in more than 180 countries.

  • Where will Indians be able to go?

Indian tourists can visit South-East Asia, Africa, Caribbean and some island countries without visa. However, it is still mandatory for Indians to obtain a visa in advance to visit developed countries in Europe, Britain, America, Canada and East Asia.

Singapore, Japan, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland top this list. Whereas Afghanistan is included in the weakest passport. US Passport is back in the top 10, but its features have decreased slightly compared to previous years. United Arab Emirates has reached fifth place. Since 2006, it has signed visa free agreements with 149 new countries. Chinese passport is ranked 59th, where its citizens can visit 81 countries without visa.

  • Passport is the door to economic opportunity

Dr., Chairman of Henley and Partners. Christian H. Kelly said, “Travel has increased in the last 20 years, but only countries with stable and strong economies have benefited from it. In today’s world, the strength of a passport determines a person’s security and economic participation.”
