Heat like June in March itself! 50 year record broken in Delhi, IMD told when relief will be available
These days the weather is getting hot very fast in Delhi-NCR. The month of March has just begun, but it feels as if the scorching heat of June has arrived. People have already started getting troubled by the heat. According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), today the maximum temperature in Delhi may be around 36 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature will be around 17 degrees. Yesterday i.e. on Saturday, the maximum temperature of Delhi had reached 35.7 degrees. This is the highest temperature in the last 50 years in the first week of March. According to the records of Safdarjung Meteorological Center (which is the main base station of Delhi), the highest such temperature was previously recorded at 34.8 degrees on March 5, 1999. That means this time the heat has broken the old record.
Apart from Delhi, many other states of North India are also in the grip of this unusual heat. In Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and surrounding areas the temperature is 4 to 8 degrees higher than normal. At many places the day temperature is reaching between 35-38 degrees, which is very high for March. The Meteorological Department says that the heat may increase further in the next few days. But the good news is that a new Western Disturbance will be active around March 10-12. Due to this, there may be cloud cover in North India and light rain may also occur, which will provide some relief.
How will the weather be in these states?
Weather of Bihar: Heat is increasing in Bihar too, but there is a possibility of light to moderate rain with thunder on 9 and 10 March. Strong winds may also blow. The temperature will be higher than normal, but rain may provide some coolness.
Himachal Pradesh: The day temperature here may be 8 to 12 degrees higher than normal. The heat will persist for the next few days. Heatwave like situation may occur in some plains on March 8. But between March 7 and 13, there are chances of rain or snowfall at some places, which can provide relief.
Uttar Pradesh: Heat is troubling people in UP too. In many districts including Lucknow, the temperature is 3 to 7 degrees higher than normal. But the good thing is that on March 9 and 10, there may be light rain with thunder in the areas of eastern Uttar Pradesh. Winds will blow at a speed of 30 to 50 km per hour, which will provide some relief from the heat.
