‘Just like dad SRK, I love awards’: Aryan Khan wins debut award, credits mom Gauri Khan

On Friday, Aryan Khan was honoured with the Best Debutant Director of the Year award at the NDTV Indian of the Year event, held in New Delhi. After receiving the award, he dedicated it to his mother and interior designer Gauri Khan.

He said, “First, I would like to thank the cast, crew and Netflix for believing in a first-time director. Congratulations to all the winners tonight. This is my first award, and I hope to win more. Like my dad, I also love awards, but this award is not for them, but for my mom because my mom always tells me to sleep early, not make fun of people and abuse at all. And today NDTV gave me this award. So thanks NDTV for making me the happiest woman in the world.

Aryan’s grandmother, Savita Chhibber, who was seated at the venue, reacted emotionally to her grandson’s achievement.

Expressing her joy, she said, “I’m very happy. May he be very successful. My blessings to him. I love you the most. I’m so proud. At this age, I’m just hearing about my grandson and his achievement has been honoured by the whole country.”

Aryan responded warmly, saying his next award would be dedicated to her, adding, “I promise.”

Netizens lauded Aryan Khan’s win graciously, with many saying he truly deserves it. Several users commented that Aryan is “very SRK-coded,” while others said the speech felt like it was written by Shah Rukh Khan himself. In fact, Gauri Khan also shared Aryan’s speech.

Aryan Khan had earlier landed in trouble for having a reference to his NCB drug case

While watching the show, social media users also noticed Aryan’s not-so-subtle dig at Sameer Wankhede in the very first episode, where a loud officer steps out of a police jeep, rants about the war against drugs and labels the entertainment industry as part of the drug problem. Claiming to be part of the ‘war against drugs’ and the ‘NCB’, the character’s lean physique, attire and demeanour reminded many of Wankhede.
