Just need 10 minutes… 19 year old Atharva himself presented his argument in the Supreme Court, won the historic case.
Tezzbuzz Desk- Madhya Pradesh 19 year old Atharva Chaturvedi has set an example of struggle and self-confidence. Despite passing the NEET exam twice, he could not get admission in medical college. Atharva comes from Economically Weaker Section (EWS), but his admission was stopped due to non-provision of EWS quota in private medical colleges.
Atharva had scored 530 marks in NEET exam. He wanted admission in MBBS under EWS quota, but his admission could not be done due to the state government not implementing EWS reservation in private medical colleges. This decision was challenged first in the High Court and later in the Supreme Court, but he did not get relief in the initial phase.
Not accepting defeat, Atharva filed the petition again in January 2025 and demanded an online hearing. During the hearing in February, he himself represented himself in the Supreme Court. He told the court that he needed only 10 minutes to present his views.
The case was heard by Justice Surya Kant’s bench. The court was also surprised by the confidence with which a 12th pass student presented his arguments. Atharva argued that students should not suffer the consequences of the state government’s lack of policy.
The Supreme Court, in exercise of its special powers under Article 142 of the Constitution Supreme Court of India by National Medical Commission (NMC) and directed the Government of Madhya Pradesh to grant provisional MBBS admission for the session 2025-26 to the eligible students of EWS category.
The court ordered that Atharva be given provisional admission in the 2025-26 session and the state government should allot him a medical college within seven days.
This victory of Atharva is an inspiration for those students who try to save their dreams amidst the flaws of the system. Through continuous legal battles and self-confidence, he proved that even the biggest obstacles can be overcome with courage and determination.
Now a big step has been taken towards realizing Atharva’s dream of becoming a doctor.
