Justice League Fans Have the Same Reaction To Green Lantern’s Man of Tomorrow Return
Aaron Pierre‘s John Stewart is jumping from streaming to the big screen. The Lanterns actor is expected to reprise his role as the Green Lantern in James Gunn’s Man of Tomorrowand the reaction from Justice League fans has been uniform: the pieces are falling into place.
Fans are sure Justice League is coming together in Man of Tomorrow
Aaron Pierre will reportedly be part of the 2027 Superman sequel following his debut in the HBO Max series Lanterns, which releases in August 2026. That show will feature John as a rookie Green Lantern training under the mentorship of Kyle Chandler’s Hal Jordan. By the time Man of Tomorrow rolls around, audiences can expect a more experienced hero ready to stand alongside the Man of Steel (via The Hollywood Reporter).
Social media lit up with excitement following the casting news. Fans on X (formerly Twitter) quickly connected the dots between Superman, Green Lantern, and the broader DCU roster already announced. “The League is coming,” one user posted. Another wrote“James Gunn is clearly setting up the DCAU Justice League roster. Man of Tomorrow is no doubt gonna be a catalyst.”
The enthusiasm stems from watching the team take shape in real time. David Corenswet’s Superman already has allies like Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl. Adding John Stewart brings the DCU closer to a fully realized Justice League. As one excited fan put it, “I can’t believe we are a year away from seeing Superman and John Stewart Green Lantern join forces on the big screen.”
Moreover, John Stewart carries particular weight with longtime DC fans. Created by Dennis O’Neil and Neal Adams, the character first appeared in Green Lantern #87 in 1971. However, his mainstream popularity exploded thanks to the Justice League animated series in the early 2000s, where Phil LaMarr voiced him. That version of Green Lantern cemented John Stewart in fans’ hearts, making his live-action team-up with Superman feel like an especially big moment. Man of Tomorrow hits theaters on July 9, 2027.
