Justice Sanjeev Khanna will be the 51st CJI of the country, will take oath on November 11.

New Delhi : Justice Sanjiv Khanna was appointed as the 51st Chief Justice of India on Thursday. He will take oath as the 51st Chief Justice on November 11. A day before this date, the current Chief Justice DY Chandrachud will vacate the post. Let us tell you, Chandrachud took over as Chief Justice on 8 November 2022. Justice Khanna's tenure will be for about six months, and he will retire from the post on May 13 next year.

Announcing the appointment, Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal wrote on social media platform Is appointed as Chief Justice from 2024.”

Chief Justice DY Chandrachud had recommended Justice Khanna's name as his successor. He had presented this recommendation by writing a letter to the Central Government. While proposing Khanna's name, Chandrachud emphasized his ability and experience. His recommendation was accepted by the government.

Know about Justice Sanjeev Khanna

Justice Sanjiv Khanna was born on 14 May 1960. He studied law from the Campus Law Center of Delhi University. In 1983, he registered himself as an advocate with the Delhi Bar Council. Early in his career he practiced in Tis Hazari Court and later transferred to Delhi High Court. Justice Khanna served as a judge in the Delhi High Court for 14 years and was the Chairman of the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee from 17 June 2023 to 25 December 2023.

Justice Khanna's appointment is expected to open a new chapter in the functioning of the Supreme Court and the judicial process. His judicial ability and experience will make him successful in this important role, which will further strengthen the Indian judiciary.
