Entry of K9 dog squad and robot in Odisha fire service
Bhuneshwar : Odisha has become the first state in the country to include a special K-9 dog squad in its fire services department. This squad has 10 trained sniffer dogs, which will help in the rescue operation. These dogs include Labrador and Belgian Malinois breeds, which have been taken from the state police. These dogs have been specially trained to find people trapped under the debris. These dogs will prove to be very helpful for fire fighters in disasters like earthquake, landslide.

Apart from this, Odisha Fire Services also included 22 state-of-the-art robots in its team in October. These robots are called fire-fighting robotic monitors. Satyapir Behera, fire officer, Principal Training Centre, Naraj, said, “During the Bahanga train accident, we realized the importance of dog squads during rescue activities. Keeping this in mind, we decided to induct K9 squads in the fire service department. Have decided.” “The puppies were brought from Dora in Rajasthan after getting approval from the Odisha government.

We got 10 dogs – three Belgian Malinois and seven Labradors. They have been given necessary training. They will be involved in rescue operations during earthquakes and other natural disasters,” Behera said.
