Kal Ka Mausam: The weather is constantly changing across the country. At some places the cold wave is chilling people and at some places dense fog is creating hindrance in traffic. Normal life is affected due to snowfall in the hilly states, while rain in the south and coastal areas has increased the problems. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for rain, fog and cold wave in many states for December 17.

According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of moderate to heavy rain in Jammu and Kashmir, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and Andaman and Nicobar Islands on December 17. Thunderstorm and lightning may occur at many places in these areas. Strong winds with a speed of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour are expected in Andaman and Nicobar during the late night of December 17 and December 18, due to which fishermen have been advised to remain alert and not venture into the sea.

The effect of dense fog will be seen in many parts of North India. Dense fog warning has been issued in Patna, Bhagalpur, Purnia, Gaya, Jehanabad and Darbhanga of Bihar. At the same time, in Prayagraj, Kanpur, Lucknow, Etawah, Barabanki and Saharanpur of Uttar Pradesh, fog can increase people’s problems in the morning. There is also a need to be cautious of dense fog in Shimla and Manali of Himachal Pradesh, while an alert of heavy fog has been issued in Gurugram of Haryana.

The weather condition in Delhi may remain worrying on 17th December. According to the Meteorological Department, pollution levels will remain high in the capital. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 25 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is likely to be 8 degrees Celsius. In the morning, winds can blow at a speed of 10 to 15 kilometers per hour.

There are chances of further increase in cold in Uttar Pradesh. The minimum temperature may drop to 6 to 7 degrees Celsius in the morning in Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, Kanpur, Lucknow, Agra, Unnao, Tundla, Aligarh, Bareilly, Barabanki and Muzaffarnagar. During this period, children and the elderly need to be especially careful.

The effect of cold will be strong in Bihar also. The weather department has issued a warning of dense fog in Patna as well as in Gaya, East and West Champaran, Buxar, Bhojpur, Purnia, Katihar, Araria and Kishanganj. Cold wave alert has been issued in Muzaffarpur, Vaishali and Gopalganj.

In Uttarakhand, there is a possibility of light rain and snowfall in Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Pithoragarh districts. Moderate to dense fog may prevail in the plains. The temperature here may drop by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius in the coming days.

At present the weather remains cold in Himachal Pradesh. According to the Meteorological Department, there may be light snowfall in the upper areas of Kinnaur, Kangra and Kullu on December 20 and 21. Tourists are seen enjoying the weather amidst snowfall in Shinkula Pass of Lahaul-Spiti.

The weather in Rajasthan is likely to be relatively normal. Minimum temperatures will remain near normal in most parts of the state, although light to moderate fog is expected in some areas of eastern and western Rajasthan.
