Kalakandu Sadam Recipe

Life Style: Kalakandu Sadam made from rice, moong dal, dry fruits, milk and Kalakandu sugar is a special recipe of Puthandu. Also called Kalakandu Pongal and Meetha Pongal, this sweet recipe comes from South India. You can use rock sugar candy, powdered sugar, sugar or jaggery to sweeten this dish. You can also adjust the thickness of the sweet by increasing or decreasing the amount of milk as per your need. Garnish with nuts of your choice and enjoy.

1/2 cup rice

1/2 cup jaggery

1 cup water

2 tbsp cashew nuts

3 tbsp moong dal

1 cup milk

1 tbsp ghee

2 tbsp raisins Step 1 Cook the rice and dal

Wash rice and dal thoroughly. Put them in a pressure cooker with water and cook until cooked. Now take them out in a bowl and mash them lightly.

Step 2 Heat the Milk

Heat milk in a pan. Let it boil. Add jaggery to it and mix. Now add rice and dal mixture and mix well. Let it cook for 10-12 minutes.

Step 3 Add cashews and raisins

Now heat 1 tablespoon ghee in a pan. Add cashews and raisins to it. Fry for 2-3 minutes. Mix them in rice-milk mixture. You will see that the Kalkandu Sadam is thickening.

Step 4 Serve hot

Cook for 2 more minutes and serve hot.
