Kangana Ranaut Calls Aditya Dhar ‘Superstar Director’ As Dhurandhar: The Revenge Smashes Box Office Records
Filmmaker Aditya Dhar’s much-anticipated Dhurandhar: The Revenge has made a thunderous debut at the box office, breaking records on its opening day after hitting theatres on March 19. The spy action thriller has not only impressed audiences but has also drawn widespread appreciation from leading figures in the film industry. Among the latest to join the chorus of praise is actor Kangana Ranaut, who credited Dhar as the driving force behind the film’s massive success.
Taking to Instagram on Saturday, Kangana shared a heartfelt note celebrating the filmmaker’s achievement. She emphasised that the most significant outcome of the film’s success is the recognition of Aditya Dhar as a “superstar director.” Drawing comparisons with Hollywood, she pointed out how filmmakers such as Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino and Christopher Nolan often command greater respect and influence than actors, a culture she believes is lacking in India.
Kangana further highlighted the challenges faced by directors in the Indian film industry. According to her, filmmakers are often overworked, underpaid and overshadowed by star actors. She noted that very few young aspirants, whether insiders or outsiders, dream of becoming directors or technicians. Instead, most aim to become actors despite claiming diverse talents. In this context, she described Dhar as a rare example of a filmmaker who is “shining brighter than any hero,” inspiring a new generation to consider careers behind the camera. She concluded her message by saluting Dhar and expressing hope that his journey would motivate aspiring filmmakers to elevate the industry.

Kangana is not alone in praising the director. Renowned filmmaker S. S. Rajamouli lauded Dhar for “hitting it out of the park” with the sequel, while veteran actor-director Rakesh Roshan commended him for ushering in what he called a “new era of filmmaking.” Several top stars, including Ram Charan, Mahesh Babu and Allu Arjun, have also applauded the film and its director.

Dhurandhar: The Revenge serves as a sequel to the 2025 blockbuster Dhurandhar and features an ensemble cast including Ranveer Singh, Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt and Sara Arjun. The film explores the backstory of Ranveer’s character, shedding light on his motivations for becoming a spy. It also traces his rise to power in Lyari while continuing his mission to dismantle a terror network operating in Pakistan.

The film has opened to overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics and audiences alike, translating into exceptional box office performance. It recorded a massive opening, earning ₹146 crore in India and ₹240 crore worldwide on its first day. With total global collections already crossing ₹370 crore, the film has surpassed the lifetime earnings of *War 2* and continues to maintain strong momentum at the box office.
With both critical acclaim and commercial success on its side, Dhurandhar: The Revenge has not only reinforced Aditya Dhar’s position in the industry but also sparked a larger conversation about the importance of recognising filmmakers as the true architects of cinematic success.
