Political reactions are continuously coming to the fore after Delhi Police took social activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was on hunger strike for 21 days at Jantar Mantar, to Safdarjung Hospital. Meanwhile, Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar has raised questions on this action while making a scathing attack on the Central Government. Kanhaiya Kumar said that the action to remove Sonam Wangchuk from the protest site was taken on the instructions of the Central Government. He targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government and Union Home Minister Amit Shah and alleged that the protesters were being forcibly removed. The Congress leader said that such action against people who are agitating for their demands in a democratic manner is not appropriate and the government should listen to them.
He criticized the government’s action by posting on social media platform ‘X’. Kanhaiya Kumar wrote in his post, “Leak-Pradhan is clinging to his throne and people demanding his resignation are being forcefully taken away from Jantar Mantar. As if this is not a place for protest but it is his private garden.”
Attempt to end democracy by silencing people’
He raised questions on the working style of the government by posting on the social media platform ‘X’. Kanhaiya Kumar wrote, “Theft is the culture of this government. The elected MLA is stolen and taken to a hotel and the people demanding justice are taken to the hospital. Go to jail or join the BJP, this game is being played so that democracy can be destroyed by silencing the people. This Shah can be called a dictator.”
Posting on the social media platform ‘X’, Kanhaiya Kumar wrote, “The voice of students and youth will not stop. This echo will become a roar, the poor education system will change, the government and the system will change.” The Congress leader said that despite the arrogance of the government, students will continue to fight for their rights and demand better education system. His statement came after the action of removing Sonam Wangchuk from Jantar Mantar and taking her to Safdarjung Hospital.
Sonam Wangchuk was sitting on a hunger strike at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar for the last 21 days demanding a fair investigation into the paper leak cases and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. His health continued to deteriorate during the long fast, after which he was taken to Safdarjung Hospital on Saturday morning. According to Delhi Police, this action was taken in compliance with the directions of the Delhi High Court and in view of his deteriorating health condition. Police said that Sonam Wangchuk has been admitted to Safdarjung Hospital for medical care.
On the other hand, the protesters protested against this action of the police and alleged that Wangchuk was removed from the protest site against his will. During this period, an atmosphere of tension remained at Jantar Mantar for some time. During the medical examination in the hospital, it was revealed that due to the long fast, Sonam Wangchuk’s weight has reduced by about 9.5 kg and her treatment is going on.
