Bengaluru: Kannada actor and former reality show contestant Aishwarya Sindhogi has approached the Sanjaynagar Police alleging sustained cyberbullying, claiming she has been subjected to abusive comments and messages from fake social media accounts in what she believes is a deliberate campaign to tarnish her reputation.
In her complaint, Aishwarya alleged that an unidentified person has been posting defamatory comments and sending offensive messages across multiple digital platforms, affecting both her personal and professional life.
The actor has expressed suspicion that the harassment is being carried out by a woman known to her, who is also a family friend. She alleged that the suspect may have created fake social media accounts to post abusive comments and send harassing messages.
Online abuse affecting career
Aishwarya told police that the abusive comments have been appearing on her social media accounts since February. She submitted screenshots and links to the alleged posts as part of her complaint.
She said the online abuse has impacted her reputation, as brands associated with her and her fans have been able to view the offensive comments.
Speaking to the media, Aishwarya described the issue as a case of cyberbullying and said the same profile appeared to be targeting her across 20 to 30 digital platforms, leading her to suspect a single individual.
FIR registered, investigation underway
The actor further stated that this was not the first time she had faced alleged harassment from the same individual. She claimed that following her mother’s death in 2020, she had lodged a complaint at the same police station alleging harassment through repeated phone calls and stalking.
Based on the latest complaint, the Sanjaynagar Police have registered a case under Section 66C of the Information Technology Act, which deals with identity theft, and have launched an investigation to identify the person operating the fake social media accounts and verify the allegations.
