Kanpurma domestic gas supply crisis, impact on consumer and restaurant sector
In recent days, there has been a problem related to domestic gas supply in Kanpur, due to which long lines have been seen outside gas agencies in various areas. Consumers are unable to get gas even though they have to wait for hours to get the cylinder.
There is a problem in giving cylinders to consumers including those who have received OTP (One Time Password). Even after booking confirmation, consumers are forced to visit the agency, which increases dissatisfaction.
A crowd has started gathering outside the gas agencies since morning. Women, senior citizens and working people are all seen standing in line. Some consumers have said that despite going to the agency continuously for two-three days, they have been left empty handed every time.
Consumers have alleged disorganized distribution system and lack of transparency among the agencies. They have also asked to provide clear information about when the cylinders will be available.
The impact of this problem is beginning to be seen not only in domestic use but also in business activities. Many restaurants and dhabas in the city have reduced their menus due to gas shortage. At some places, only limited food is provided, while at other hotels, some hotels are on the verge of temporary closure.
Restaurant owners have said that they cannot operate without gas. They say that due to continuous supply blockage, business is being affected and economic loss is being incurred.
Gas agency employees said the problem arose due to supply shortage. It is expected that the distribution will become normal once sufficient quantity of cylinders is available.
The administration is monitoring the situation keeping in mind the situation. Officials have said that discussions are being held with the companies concerned about regularizing the supply and efforts are being made to normalize the situation.
