Former Indian captain Kapil Dev has given a big statement regarding the 2027 ODI World Cup of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. He clearly said that whether both the players should play the World Cup or not, the decision should be taken not by head coach Gautam Gambhir or captain Shubman Gill, but by the selection committee. Kapil believes that it is the job of the selectors to choose the team, hence the final decision should also be theirs.

In an interview, Kapil Dev said that first of all the five selectors should sit and decide which player is worthy of being in the team. After this, opinion can be taken from the captain and coach. But if all the selectors agree on a player, then whether it is coach Gautam Gambhir or the captain’s opinion should not matter much. He said that the selectors should fulfill their responsibilities with full honesty.

Look at performance, not age.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will become quite experienced by the 2027 World Cup. At that time Virat would be 39 years old, while Rohit would be more than 40 years old. There is a constant discussion about whether both will play in the next World Cup or not. It has also been said in some media reports that the team management wants to give more opportunities to the young players keeping the future in mind.

If form is good then age does not matter

Kapil Dev says that if a player is fit and is performing well continuously, then his age should not be considered. He said that when a young player is in bad form, people say give him time, he will bounce back. But if a senior player does not play in some matches, then it is immediately said that his time is over. According to Kapil, a place in the team should be given only on the basis of performance and fitness and not on the basis of age.
